چکیده

Spin echo imaging is often called the workhorse of MRI as it is frequently a large part of many clinical protocols. By definition, the “spin echo” is the occurrence of transverse magnetization that has been re-phased by a refocusing RF pulse. Note that transverse magnetization exists following an excitation RF pulse that tips the magnetization from the equilibrium, longitudinal direction into the transverse plane. The spin echo effect was explained by Erwin Hahn in 1950 [1], and further developed by Carr and Purcell who pointed out the advantages of using a 180° refocusing RF pulse for the second pulse [2]. Another improvement was made by Meiboom and Gill in orientating the axes of the excitation and refocusing RF pulses perpendicular to each other [3]. These two improvements give rise to the term “CPMG condition”. The figure below shows the spin echo pulse sequence, which illustrates a couple of important parameters when describing the pulse sequence: TE: time to echo from the excitation RF pulse TR: repetition time between adjacent excitation RF pulses

Comparison the Accuracy of Fetal Brain Extraction from T2-Half-Fourier Acquisition Single-Shot Turbo Spin-Echo (HASTE) MR Image with T2-True Fast Imaging with Steady State Free Precession (TRUFI) MR Image by Level Set Algorithm

Background Access to appropriate images of fetal brain can greatly assist to diagnose of probable abnormalities. The aim of this study was to compare the suitability of T2-True Fast Imaging with Steady State Free Precession (T2-TRUFI), and T2-Half-Fourier Acquisition Single-Shot Turbo Spin-Echo (T2- HASTE( magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to extract the fetal brain using the level set algorithm...

Assessment of the Characteristics of MRI Coils in Terms of RF Non-Homogeneity Using Routine Spin Echo Sequences

Introduction: One of the major causes of image non-uniformity in MRI is due to the existence of  non-homogeneity in RF receive and transmit. This can be the most effective source of error in  quantitative  studies  in  MRI  imaging.  Part  of  this  non-homogeneity  demonstrates  the  characteristics of RF coil and part of it is due to the interaction of RF field with the material being  imaged...

Geometric distortion evaluation of magnetic resonance images by a new large field of view phantom for magnetic resonance based radiotherapy purposes

Background: The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiotherapy planning method have been considered in recent years because of the advantages of MRI and the problems of planning with two images modality. The first step in MRI-based radiotherapy is to evaluate magnetic resonance (MR) images geometric distortion. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate system related geometric distort...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance physics for clinicians: part I

There are many excellent specialised texts and articles that describe the physical principles of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques. There are also many texts written with the clinician in mind that provide an understandable, more general introduction to the basic physical principles of magnetic resonance (MR) techniques and applications. There are however very few texts or arti...

Comparison of spin-echo MR pulse sequences for imaging of the brain.

PURPOSE To determine the value of the gradient- and spin-echo (GRASE) technique as compared with the fast spin-echo and conventional spin-echo techniques in MR imaging of the brain. METHODS Sixty-six patients with ischemic and neoplastic brain lesions were examined with T2-weighted spin-echo, fast spin-echo, and GRASE sequences. Three independent observers evaluated the contrast characteristi...
